BTC pays nearly $84,000 to their drivers for 1st Quarter Bonus
|
May 18, 2010 - WMG Interactive
The end of a quarter at Builders Transportation Company is an exciting time for drivers because many of them get a substantial boost to take to the bank. The company’s quarterly bonus program embodies the philosophy that hard work does indeed pay off at BTC.
“The bonus payout adds extra money for our driver’s pay for the quarter,” says Jerry Gowen, Director of Human Resources for BTC. “We’re looking at an average of more than $1,500 in bonus dollars per driver.”
For first quarter 2010, BTC paid $83,774.16 to 62 drivers who qualified for the bonus program. Gowen says the program encompasses several areas of driver performance but is quite attainable.
“During the quarter, the driver must either run 30,000 miles or produce $40,000 in freight revenue,” says Gowen. “Then there are four categories of performance we review. If they achieve three of the four, they get an additional $.03 per mile for all miles run during the quarter. If they get four out of four, BTC adds an additional $.02 so they earn $.05 per mile for all miles run in the quarter. You can see from the amount we’re paying out that many of our drivers have the opportunity for this program to work for them.”
The four areas of performance for the program involve safety, service, maintenance, and miles per gallon/idle time. For safety, the driver must not have any preventable accidents, DOT write-ups, log violations or tickets. There can be no driver-related service failures (100% on time pick up and delivery). The driver is expected to take good care of the equipment (no abuse or neglect.) Finally, fuel mileage must average 6.5 mpg or greater and idle time must average 40 percent or less.
“Driver feedback on this program is very positive,” says Gowen. “It puts the drivers in control of adding even more to their earnings. It’s a great example of getting back what you put in to something. These professionals do demanding work and BTC has always been committed to making sure they’re rewarded for that with good pay and weekly home time. This is just another way we are able to show our appreciation to our drivers for their outstanding performance.”
Additional pluses for company drivers include weekend home time plus paid vacation, paid orientation, weekly direct deposit, referral bonuses, and runs primarily in the Midwest, South and Southeast. Owner operators at BTC can also expect to be home weekends and earn the highest rates in the industry.
Family-owned BTC, founded in 1954, has Midwest regional runs open now offering weekend home time as well as high earnings. For more information, please call 800-238-6803 or visit www.btcflat.com.
