Three semis blown over in Leary , TX during Thursday storms

April 11, 2008 - WMG Interactive

High winds blew three 18-wheelers off the Interstate near Leary , Texas on Thursday.  Traveling on I-30 just west of Texarkana when the high winds hit, the wrecked trucks blocked all lanes of the Interstate.

Two of the truck drivers were taken to St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana for treatment of minor injuries.

The National Weather Service determined the damage was the result of straight-line winds, and not a tornado.

"Something picked the truck up like a toy and slammed it on its side, then it slid across the interstate," said Charles Thornton, one of the truck drivers.

Traffic on I-30’s westbound lanes was being rerouted to U.S. Highway 82 until the trucks could be moved.
