Don Hummer Trucking Honors Drivers During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

October 20, 2009 - WMG Interactive

Oxford, Iowa, – During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, November 1-7, 2009, Don Hummer Trucking, headquartered in Oxford, IA, will join a nationwide effort to honor the drivers who bolster our nation’s economy.

Did you know that the trucking industry annually transports nearly 70 percent of all freight in the United States? That’s $660 billion-worth of goods transported by 3.5 million truck drivers, who are among the almost 9.0 million-person workforce in trucking in the United States alone. Did you know that more than 80 percent of U.S. communities depend solely on trucking for delivery of their goods and commodities? Did you know that at some point during its journey from producer to consumer, freight must be transported by truck? No other form of transportation—whether plane, ship, or train—can deliver goods door-to-door. Trucks must be involved to make it happen.

And not only does our nation’s economic prosperity depend on the trucking industry to deliver the goods we need every day, our national and regional security relies on the industry during emergencies as well.

Remarkably, our nation’s long-haul drivers average more than 100,000 miles on the road per year. Yet, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the number of truck-involved fatalities dropped an estimated 12% in 2008. At the local level, Don Hummer Trucking is proud of our safety record and our drivers.

Don Hummer Trucking invites you to join us in thanking our drivers during this weeklong event. Support our nation’s professional truck drivers, who collectively travel about 350 billion miles per year to bring us the products we need to lead healthy, productive lives.

Now that you know the facts, can there be any doubt as to the critical role truck drivers play in our nation’s economy? Thank you for recognizing National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and joining America in celebrating these professional drivers who make it happen safely, securely, and with pride in the job they perform.
