J & R Schugel Driver Wins Awards at Three Shows

October 13, 2008 - WMG Interactive

New Ulm, MN. -- J & R Schugel Trucking is pleased to congratulate Company Driver Curt Miller, who recently won first place in the Working Bobtail Company Class Category of the 20th Annual Paul K. Young Memorial Truck Beauty Championship, organized and presented by the Pride & Polish Truck Show Series. The event, held during the Great American Trucking Show (GATS) in Dallas, TX, honors the professionalism and appearance of participating drivers and the overall appeal and cleanliness of their trucks.

This is the second time in a row Miller has placed in this type of contest and his success extends further. He also took third place at the Mid-America Truck Show (MATS) and first place in the Walcott Truckers Jubilee Jamboree Super Truck Beauty Contest, held July 10-11, 2008. For his participation in these events, he was awarded three trophies, one for each event he won.

"At Walcott, I was very surprised with the other trucks that were competing. I think there were 12 in my competition," Miller said. "It was a lot of hard work, but I was happy to win."

Miller's truck, a blue and white (2007) 9900 IX model, is currently featured in the 2008 Pride & Polish calendar. For Miller, who has competed in temperatures exceeding 102 degrees, showing trucks has primarily been a hobby. "I have been doing truck competitions for a number of years. I enjoy it," he said. "The good part about showing for my company is that they invest the money needed to compete and win."

Miller has been with J & R Schugel Trucking on and off since 1992. He drives primarily throughout the Midwest and East Coast and describes his company favorably, stating, "I like the people." With nearly 34 years of experience in the transportation industry, Miller says he has an appreciation for trucking. "My grandfather and my uncle worked in this business. They taught me a lot about it."

Miller has been showing trucks for 21 to 22 years and decided this month that his win in Dallas will be his last truck show. "I just made up my mind that it's time to get away from it. I've been driving and showing a long time," he said. "My wife tells me that I'm going out with a bang, but I'm glad to be going out a winner."
