With more than 3,200 riders, Transport America moved 16 van loads of bicycles from the starting area in Proctor near Duluth to Hinckley on the beautiful Willard Munger State Trail. The ride finished Sunday at the Nowthen Threshing Show Grounds.
“We always have excellent support for this event and the turn-out of volunteers this year was very good,” says Pat Crilly, Support Center Manager at Transport America. “The MS 150 is a really great way to help raise awareness of MS, fund vital research and support programs and services for people living with MS right here in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. I’ve coordinated our volunteers for nine years now and I’m very proud of our participation.”
With a goal of raising $2.6 million, pledges and donations for the race have reached nearly 82 percent of that goal with more still coming in. “Our help on the event is important so that no additional money has to be spent on transporting the bikes or supplies,” says Crilly. “We wrap all the bicycles and get them loaded plus we pull a refrigerated trailer to transport the water, milk and other snacks for the riders during the weekend.”
This year’s volunteer company drivers from Transport America included: Wayne Etienne, Troy Kasprowicz, Duane Johnson, Steve Stearns, McAndrew Manhart, Mike Lowrie, Peggy and Scott Braam, Michael Majerus, Steve Job, Robert Sanborn, Craig Griepp, Steve Mills, Wayne Carlson, Michael Nye, and Gary Glass. Independent Contractors Ralph Rempher and Michael Mix also drove.
Several other employees drove as well. They were: Brett Terchila, Director of Operations; Val Pogue, Operations Support employee; Doug Cannon, Field Support Specialist and Pat Crilly.
Volunteer's riding along were: Donna Mills, Becky Strovers, Karen Etienne, Angela Cannon, Frank Carlson, Lind Glass, Ginger Sanborn, Deb Erickson, and Kate Crilly. The following also provided support: Lisa Giangiacomo, Transport America fleet leaders and planners.
“The spirit of volunteerism at Transport America is very strong, always has been,” says Crilly. “We had beautiful weather and a lot of people working for a good cause. I am very thankful to everyone who volunteered and contributed to making the race a successful one for the society.”
