It was hard to fill trucking jobs throughout the majority of 2016. The Truckload Carriers Association took notice and has dedicated advocacy groups to it and helped organize and fund conferences to help educate and combat against it. Trucking companies increased spending, tried new advertising mediums and some carriers even went as far to spend hard-earned money in digest-sized “trucking books” that provide no distribution records or provide any trackable statistics. Yes, times were tough.
But alas, we’ve reached the Promised Land! For a multitude of reasons, truck drivers are now applying for truck driving jobs at record numbers. If your trucking company isn’t experiencing these record hire numbers, you’re doing something wrong.
HOW MUCH HAS TRAFFIC INCREASED?
We obviously can’t speak for every advertising medium out there, but for CDLjobs.com; we saw a 184% increase in unique applicants in November 2015 compared to the same time frame last year. November 2015 also represented the highest application count since March of 2011. On the monthly analytics, 2015 is experiencing a 61% increase over the 2014 monthly application count average. Yes, the times they are-a-changing. Hallelujah!
WHAT HAS CAUSED THE INCREASE?
We like to think that it is, at least in part, a result of education. We’ve been preaching to whoever would listen that you should be posting your classified truck driving jobs on our free-to-clients trucking jobs board, and trucking companies are listening and responding. Drivers are doing more research and making informed decisions about who they are applying to, so the process of actually “recruiting” a driver has become easier once a Recruiter is able to establish a connection to them.
Trucking companies are also more mobile now than they were in 2015, and it makes a huge difference. Truck drivers have too many options to spend time fumbling through a website that isn’t user friendly on their smart phone, laptop, or tablet…and you rarely get a second chance. This translates into more traffic and more conversions, which in turn makes the coffee and donuts taste better for us Recruiting type people in the weekly Management meetings.
ARE MY TRUCKING JOBS BEING SEEN?
The short answer here is that it depends on how you’re posting them. Yes, how you’re posting your trucking jobs is every bit as important is where you’re posting your trucking jobs. Without attention-grabbing titles and information adequate enough to generate a click, you might as well run your ad in a newspaper (which we know doesn’t provide a positive ROI). Do your research on what works and what doesn’t work...your truck driving jobs on the internet need to be tended to and refreshed. If done correctly, your advertisements will be seen and answered.
Remember, your business is our business.
